Vanity Fair (Sept 1)
Reese Witherspoon, James Purefoy, Eileen Atkins, Jim Broadbent, Romola Garai

This is the story of Becky Sharp (Witherspoon), a lower-class girl who uses her wit and guile to make her way through 1820's London society, as the effects of the Battle of Waterloo are felt by her adopted family, the parents of Amelia (Garai), her best friend from boarding school. When Becky is unable to get Amelia's brother to ask for her hand in marriage, she is forced to become a governess at a remote country house, where she is courted by both the elderly Sir Pitt Crawley, and his roguish younger son, Rawdon Crawley (Purefoy)...

The Cookout (Spet 3)
Storm P, Eve, Frankie Faison, Farrah Fawcett, Danny Glover, Queen Latifah, Ja Rule

When Todd Anderson (Storm P) is chosen as the #1 professional basketball draft pick and signs to play for his home team, the New Jersey Nets, for $30 million, he finds that his newfound wealth means his relationships with the people in his life is bound to change. This becomes evident when he decides to throw the sort of family/neighborhood cookout his family has always had during the summer at his new house in a stuffy white neighborhood, which means that there's going to be more than one type of culture clash, between his new and old friends, and those who like him for him, and those who like him for his money. The event is timed to coincide with Todd's first endorsement deal announcement, which only accentuates the difference between his roots and his newfound fame. Watching over the proceedings is the neighborhood association's security guard (Queen Latifah), who's there to make sure none of their rules get broken... although that is certainly guaranteed with Todd's rowdy family and friends in attendance.

Wicker Park (Sept 3)
Josh Hartnett, Matthew Lillard,Rose Byrne, Diane Kruger, Jessica Pare

After he has his heart broken, a young Chicago investment banker, Matthew (Hartnett), returns from two years away from the city as he tried to recover from the experience, settling again in the Wicker Park neighborhood; he's even engaged to a different woman now. Matthew's world gets thrown for a loop, however, when he becomes obsessed with a woman he sees in a cafe, believing her to be his long-lost love, to the extent that he puts his engagement on hold, as his search for the girl soon sends him down a dangerous path...

Sky Captain and the World of Tommorrow (Sept 17)
Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Casey Affleck, Bai Ling

This science fiction adventure set in the 1930s starts as New York City reporter Polly Perkins (Paltrow) starts to investigate why so many famous scientists are starting to be reported missing. Soon, she starts to get clues, as strange flying machines and giant robots threaten the city. Luckily, her old flame, aviator Captain Joseph Sullivan (Law), AKA Sky Captain, is there to battle the bad guys with his friends, the Flying Legion, in his Warhawk P-40. Soon, Polly is flying away with Sky Captain to Nepal to find a crazy scientist, Dr. Totenkopf, who apparently wants to destroy the world. When the danger lurks under the waters of the seas, Sky Captain seeks the help of naval adventurer Captain Franky Cook (Jolie), much to the chagrin of Polly...

Mr. 3000 (Sept 24)
Bernie Mac, Angela Bassett, Evan Jones, Paul Sorvino

Seven years ago, a vain and jaded baseball star (Bernie Mac) retired from the sport as soon as achieving his 3,000th base hit, and his place within the select group who have achieved that distinction. Now, however, after three of those hits during his time with the Milwaukee Brewers have been disqualified, the Hall of Famer returns to the game, playing once again for the Brewers, to play a few more games and get back to the 3,000 mark, but along the way, he discovers that the experience renews his love for the sport, reminding him what it was like to be a young boy obsessed with a simple game involving sticks, balls and running in a circle, as he finds himself imparting some of this knowledge to a young rookie he mentors. (Angela Bassett plays a reporter who becomes the star's romantic interest; Michael Rispoli plays one of his former teammates who is now his business partner.)

Wimbledon (Sept 24)
Kirsten Dunst, Paul Bettany

In just two summer weeks, a British tennis player who was ranked 157th in the world (Bettany), and generally considered to be on his last legs as a professional player, gets his one last chance to win both the All-England Lawn Tennis Championships on the grassy courts of Wimbledon... and the heart of the rising star "bad girl of tennis" (Dunst) as well (Favreau plays Bettany's former sports agent who reappears when his playing gets better again.)
