A time when the American dream was alive, and one family
was living that dream.
In a story set in the 60s, American Dreams follows the life
of the Pryor family, Meg, their teenage daughter in particular. In the first season her dream od dancing on American Bandstand,
a popular music tv show, came true thanks to the help of her best friend Roxanne, whose more like extended family in the household.
Meg's younger sister Patty is a young know it all who just skipped eight grade to go into high school early, her sisters high
school in particaluar, much to the dismay of Meg. Through all their bad times Meg will always be there for her, and when she
isn't she finds a close allie in Roxanne.
The girls older brother JJ was a hot football star, and recieved
a full ride from a local college. Because he was staying close to Philly, his high school sweetheart Beth, decided on Penn.
But when an old running injury comes back to haunt him he looses his spot on the team, and his change at going to college.
Without telling his parents or Beth, he joins the marines, and is soon after sent to fight in Vietnam. Before he goes however,
he proposes to Beth.
The parents in the family are Jack and Helen, two parents who
balance each other out perfectly. Jack, the harsh and strict parent is always softened by Helen's approach. She's a stay at
home mom and he own his own electronic store. Last season when he tried to open an additional store and put his salesman Henry
as its manager, his dream was smashed when riots broke out in the first season finale and the store was torched.
Henry's son Sam found an unlikely friendship in Meg. Sadly
though they have to fight to stay friends because of pressure from a rascist society who don't belive a black boy should be
around a white girl. Now in the second season finale they left us with JJ trapped in the middle of a battle, surrounded by
Vietnamese soldiers. Sam just graduated high school, and is accepting that his father's starting to move on after his mothers
death in the early season. The most shocking news however is that Beth and JJ, after a broken trip to Hawaii while he was
based there, called of their engagement when he annonced he was staying in the army. Soon after she annonced she was pregnant,
and since she woouldn't have an abortion or put itup for adopton they refusedto help her. The Pryors then stepped in and alllowed
her to live with them since school's over and she can't live in the dorm or at home.
Next season the Pryors face more changes, as Beth has her
and JJ's child, the Pryor family deals with the changing decade, and Meg will continue to shed her good girl image and will
be tempted to start a relationship with the new by next door.
